The Michigan Ice film is an untold story from an unlikely place. Munising, Michigan is home to one of North America's largest concentrations of climbable ice. Here, along the shores of a the world's largest body of fresh water, Lake Superior, a three-decade history of ice climbing has unfolded in relative obscurity.
The winter of 2014 was one of the coldest on record. It was a great season for ice. We spent that winter shooting with local climbers to help shape a 2 minute teaser that showcases the Munising landscape and Michigan Ice. In 2015 we will return to the ice of Munising with professional athletes to finish the project. The 20 minute final film, weaving together the history, culture, landscape--and some pretty rad climbing--will be premiered and released Winter 2016.
On February 7, 2015 during the 27th (or 28th) Annual Michigan Ice Fest, we will release the teaser and humbly ask for your support via a Kickstarter campaign, in order to partially fund completion of this project, the first of its kind.
